Circle of life?

So.... You send your children to public school, do you?

Public school, where teachers are required to belong to the NEA.
The NEA, founded in 1857 "to elevate the character and advance the interests of the profession of teaching and to promote the cause of popular education in the United States."
In pursuing its mission, the NEA has determined that it will focus the energy and resources of its 2.7 million members toward the "promotion of public confidence in public education."
Huh? Not dedicated to improving the quality of education? Not dedicated to enforcing higher standards?

So what do we get from the NEA?
  • Schools that complain about money but insist on teaching Kindergardeners Spanish.
  • Schools that want to lower their standards so their graduation rates will be higher.
  • Schools that turn out students who don't have the skills necessary to apply for a job.
  • Schools that turn out students that can't go on to college without being taught remedial math and reading.
  • Schools that don't teach American history and have kids in high school that don't know who the current president is.
  • Schools that support mandatory community service before graduation.
  • Schools that teach that Western civilization (ours) is bad for the world.
  • Schools that teach the socialist theory of "sharing" what we as individuals earn.

According to Forbes magazine, the NEA fields "the largest army of paid political organizers and lobbyists in the U.S., dwarfing the forces of the Republican and Democrat national committees combined." But in one sense, the NEA is the most powerful constituency of the Democratic Party - 95 percent of political expenditures go to the Democrats, and the union enthusiastically endorsed John Kerry at the NEA convention.

So is it any wonder that the Democrats want to register college kids to vote?
